How sitter outreach works

How Sitter contacts your sitters based on star ratings, with overlapping outreach and manual skip.

Sitter contacts your people based on the star ratings you give them, not all at once. Your highest-rated sitter gets the first text. If they decline or don't respond, the next sitter is contacted. This continues down your list until someone confirms.

How sitters are ordered

Each sitter has a star rating from half a star to five stars. Higher-rated sitters are contacted first. You can set a global rating for each sitter, or override it per occasion. When you create a booking, you can also customize the order for that specific booking before sending.

Overlapping outreach

For most bookings, Sitter gives your top sitter a brief head start before also texting the next person. This means two sitters may be considering your request at the same time. The first to accept gets confirmed, and the other is notified the spot is filled. The head start is shorter for urgent bookings: 5 minutes for same-day, 10 minutes for 1–2 days out, and 15 minutes for 3 or more days away.

Response windows

Each sitter has a set amount of time to respond before Sitter moves on. The window depends on how soon the booking is: 60 minutes when it's 3 or more days away, 30 minutes for 1–2 days out, and 15 minutes for same-day requests. If a sitter declines, the next person is contacted right away without waiting for the window to expire.

Skipping a sitter

While outreach is in progress, you can tap "Skip" on the booking detail page to move past the current sitter without waiting for the response window. The skipped sitter is not notified. If they reply yes after being skipped, they'll get a message that the spot is already filled.

Reminders

48 hours before a confirmed booking, both you and your sitter receive a reminder text. This is the only additional text your sitter gets after confirming.

When the list is exhausted

If every sitter on your list declines or doesn't respond, you'll be notified that no one is available. At that point you can try again with a different occasion or adjust the time.
