SMS and privacy

How Sitter uses SMS, TCPA compliance, and how sitters opt out.

Sitter uses SMS to coordinate bookings between families and their sitters. Text messages are the core of how the service works — sitters don't need an app or account to participate.

What texts are sent

Sitters receive texts for four things: the initial opt-in request, booking requests, cancellation notices, and a 48-hour reminder before a confirmed booking. That's it. Sitter does not send marketing texts or promotional content to sitters.

TCPA compliance

Sitter follows TCPA (Telephone Consumer Protection Act) requirements. Sitters must explicitly opt in before receiving any booking texts. Every text includes the option to reply STOP to opt out. Message and data rates may apply.

Opting out

A sitter can reply STOP to any text to immediately stop all messages from Sitter. Once opted out, they will not receive any further texts until they opt in again. Families are notified when a sitter has opted out.

Phone number privacy

Texts to sitters come from Sitter's phone number, not yours. Your personal phone number is never shared with sitters through the platform. Similarly, sitter phone numbers are stored securely and only used for booking coordination.
